I have a shower stall in one of my bathrooms that is leaking really badly at the shower head and intermittently at the cold faucet. The shower head is REALLY old, and I can’t get a replacement because it is a ball-joint, not a regular shower head. (It is not leaking between the arm and the shower head, just out of the head). It was a drip for a while, but now is alsmost a constant trickle of water–which is really annoying.
The water in at the faucet is intermittent and seems to leak from 2 places, behind the entire fixture, and between the turnable part and the stationary part. It is not constant, and is only a drip when it does leak.
I am not terribly skkilled with tools (husband even worse), but I wondered what I could do to stop these annoying drips!
Thanks for your time.

Don’t know much about this repair, but I’m finding ball joint shower heads all over the web. Are you sure it can’t be replaced? I find that so hard to believe.

I think both of those fixtures should be threaded, so remove them and wrap pipe tape around the threads, and reinstall, leak should stop.

For the shower head there’s no problem with the leakage, the problem is at the faucet itself, maybe the rubber washer were broken or the valves are already rusted.First, try to figure out if the faucet can be removed from the pipeline or it is stuck inside the wall(probably not). Then,by using a pipe wrench or an adjustable crescent slowly try to turn(normally counter-clockwise)the faucet until it separated to the pipeline. Then bring it to the nearest hardware store as sample and ask someone who knows the trade of plumbing. To put it back, you need a teflon tape that you had to put on a pipe thread as a sealant. Then you’re all set to fix it.And if you can’t really do it,well it’s better to spend a couple of bucks to hire some professional(plumber) to do it.

The problem is with the cold water stem washer and seat. You will need a couple of tools that are made just for this sort of repair, a seat wrench and stem wrenches. If you have never done this before I would recommend that you have a plumber or handyman do the repair and watch them, it’s not difficult but can lead to some costly repairs if done wrong.
I would also recommend that you do both the hot and cold side because if one is going bad the other usually isn’t far behind.
