My grandfather left me his three bedroom brick home some months ago. The house is 46 years old and has had only one owner. It needs some TLC. The house needs painting, the bathroom fixtures & windows need replacing. Otherwise, the home is beautiful with hardwood and poured floors. I don’t have any money to fix it up, though. Do you real estate agents ever have clients who prefer a fix-er-upper or do most want ready to move in?

Home Renovations during a Home Appraisal-Can it be done?
Home Renovations during a Home Appraisal-Can it be done? I am having a home appraisal done in a few weeks, however I am having major work done on my single family home. I am updating a kitchen and a bathroom, among other areas. The reason for the real estate appraisal is I am refinancing my house, no cash out. I am confirming based on your experience it should not be a problem work is being done on the house during the time of the home appraisal? Please advise. Thanks.
Home renovations that increase your house value?
We are renovating our house and were wondering what reno’s will give us the best selling stand point. We plan on renovating the kitchen (new counter tops, flooring and perhaps cuboards), painting, trim, windows, doors. Any ideas of what best let me know
We want to eventually to put hardwood but the people who we just bought our house from put in brand new laminet in dinning room and living room. One bathroom was just renovated.
Home Equity Appraisal time, start to finish?
I have been approved for a home equity loan but the computer appraisal is only valuing my house at 222k. I just completed 45k worth of renovations on my home including a new kitchen and bathroom so I know it will appraise much higher. My question is, if they ordered the walk thru appraisal today, about how long will it take for the appraisal to be completed and the report sent to my bank?
Need help on home appraisal for a divorce with recent renovations?
We owned the home for only 2 years during our marriage but put 14,000 into upgrades such as insulations, new bathroom floor, sink etc, new water heater, running heat ducts to each room upstairs instead of 1 vent by the steps, replaced old sliding doors with french, new front door etc.. This is 14,000 we sunk in the home during our marriage just at that area. We also bought an outdoor wood burner that heats the water and pipes it underground to heat your house off your own wood safely and heats water for free. This was around $10,000 apprxx and maybe 2 gran is owed. My soon to be x is saying there is not any equity in the home so that he gets to keep it, along with most of my things too. I have the appraisal from Jan 2005 and it has 2 figures one is 138,000 the other maybe 118,000 which is what we talked them down to for the sale. As of Jan 2007 110,000 was owed on the principle. I am saying we put a lot into the house it has got be worth more than what is owed. Any advice?
How cheap are homes in New York City eg Bronx or Queens at current prices. ?
What would cost more building a house or buying and then renovating?
We are moving to Ontario, in the Owen Sound area (within an hours radius from there) and are trying to decide whether to build or buy and then renovate. What would cost more…to build outright (including cost of land) or to buy and then do quite a few renovations…ie bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry room???? We want to do either out in the country side.
can you have your house appraised to drop PMI insurance?
I am paying PMI on one of my houses because I wanted to take the downpayment money to do renovations. Can I get any lisenced appraiser to find the new value of the house now that its done? Can I just take that to the bank and request PMI be dropped ?( its a local bank I always deal with ) not an out of town lender.
( assuming that the appraisal shows that I owe less than 80% of the value?)
I’m quite sure of that, we added another bathroom, another bedroom, and all new walls, carpet, and fixtures. it was a total gut job,
I just dont want to drop a grand on a new appraisal if the bank can reject it.
( yes I called the bank and they wont give me a straight answer ) they keep saying call OUR appraiser and have him look at it,
“funny how the banks appraisers always seems to think your property is worth EXACTLY what you borrow”
Thanks in advance,
I am in MI by the way.
