Maybe she feels you do not think she is capable of something that important.
Some people have pride in wanting to say that they did something all by themself. In a sense she wanted to be among those few.

Because she thinks that you don’t believe she can do it. A contractor costs a pretty penny and she thought she could save the money by doing it herself.
No offense to her, but you did the right thing! When you go to sell the place, you need to be able to show a licensed worker did things like the plumbing and electical. Never skimp on those two areas!
She can do all the fixtures, painting, floors and others!
