We are moving to Ontario, in the Owen Sound area (within an hours radius from there) and are trying to decide whether to build or buy and then renovate. What would cost more…to build outright (including cost of land) or to buy and then do quite a few renovations…ie bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry room???? We want to do either out in the country side.

Presently building outright it far costlier then renovating. Material, transporting them and labor charges are high and make a new ouse more expensive then a standing house.
Obviously, there can be no pat answer to this question unless you are very specific about a lot of details like how much renovation would be done. However, in general, you will pay a premium price to build a new home. The details matter there too, of course. What type of quality would you build? The cost varies greatly.
Again speaking generally, you can get more house for your money by buying a used house and renovating it. That is especially true in today’s buyers market. Still, details like whether you would need to finance renovations might be important factors that could influence the decision about which is best for you.
well, i would say that building a house would cost you more
i spoze you could do it if you had some money to splash around.
but if you dont it’s a good idea to renovate because it probley would be cheaper and at least you would have somewhere to live rather then a place you rent.
Building a house can be costly and somtimes the builder can bail out.
and cost you lots of money…..
and if you build out in the country side you genreally get alot of sunshine depending where you live it could be a good idea to install solar panels to to cut down on power bills, i have and it’s awsome i get rather cheap power now
hope this helps
xD
The great thing about building your own house from scratch is the fact that you can decide exactly what you want and where you want it, the amount of bedrooms, the size of the house and also other finer details you prefer. Buying a house and making a few renovations could cost you a whole lot of money and it might still not be exactly what you are looking for.
Before building or planning your dream home, you should browse through some house plan sites and get an idea of what you are looking for and some tips and advice about house plans, building costs and different styles of houses.
