The Bathroom Vanity: the Centerpiece of your Bathroom Renovation

Gary Nealon

If you have been to Lowes or Home Depot lately you will see a larger selection of unique bathroom vanities. Most of these vanities are way over priced. These bathroom vanities look very appealing and it provides for an impulse buy, but if you shop around a little you will find these same vanities at a much better price.

A quick example; we found a “42 inch Euro Vanity online at an RTA kitchen cabinet and bathroom vanity website for around $290 dollars. That same vanity at the Home Depot web site was almost $600 dollars. We also found out that the Home Depot’s vanity was made of particle board, while the RTA site uses real wood in their bathroom vanity construction.

If you are looking for a very best in bathroom vanities, or even what they would call bathroom furniture, the internet has the stores beat hands down. The websites provided bathroom vanities that were hand painted, they used imported wood, and they were of solid construction. Many of them even come with the vanity tops, hardware, and matching mirrors included. These vanities would be a great addition to any bathroom that wants to stand out from the average.

Most of the cabinets or vanities that you buy these days are labeled RTA. This simple phrase stands for ready to assemble. If you’re buying retail you will see assembled cabinets and cabinets in boxes. It’s basically the same thing. A building supply super store might assemble some of the vanities or cabinets and charge you an even higher price; they also sell RTA cabinets and market these products to the do it your self people. Either way it is the same cabinet, we just found out that it is easy and cost effect to assemble the cabinets ourselves. Some of the real nice bathroom vanities come assembled and are shipped directly to you, but others can easily be put together with a flat head screw drive. All of the RTA bathroom vanities and kitchen cabinets come with one simple page of instructions.

The shipping is an additional cost, but when you factor in the savings you get from buying online, you still come out far ahead of buying at a retail store. This is because most of the bathroom vanity websites, and the kitchen cabinet websites, are importing and warehousing the items. They have no need for a store and the high costs associated with having a retail location, so they can provide the same items at a fraction of the cost. Another nice feature is that they deliver to your door. No fighting through traffic, waiting in store lines, and you are saving gas money at the same time.

So after we got past that, we went online and found a wonderful bathroom vanity website. We also found that the better websites will have a large selection of kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities. This usually is a sign of a decent online store. But, make sure you go to a few different websites, you will see a vast difference in pricing and be careful, some sites might state “free shipping” but they will make that cost up in higher prices. In the end we found a good site and it provided us with the high end style bathroom vanity we were looking for and it also gave us some great ideas for other projects around the house.

I have a son with autism, and we require help for modifications?

Myron R.

Is there a Canadian organization besides Easter Seals, that helps fund disability modifications to a home in Ontario Canada? My son requires massive intervention in all areas, is on a 22 year wait list for a group home, and is highly active and destructive. He takes meds for obsessive/compulsive disorder, but this doesn’t really slow him down. Last week he smahed a toilet, through a fridge into the basement, and tore a hole through a wall. The costs are astronomical, we’ve been told the province will care for him, but we have to sign away all parental rights in order to get him help…this is crazy, and we prefer to keep him in the home, where people with a vested interest in him can care for him.
It’s easier to place him into care, than to get in-house treatment, and help. We need a full bathroom renovation due to flooding(he turned the water on and damaged the floors and walls, my insurer says he will cancel my insurance if I file a claim, and without insurance, no mortgages.

Tim Sousa

As a homeowner, you may want something a bit different, more exciting, or more attractive for your home. There are many homeownwers who are satisfied with their home, but there are also many who are not, and want more. If you are one of the latter, then it may be time for you to change things up a bit. The changes don’t have be expensive, you don’t have to buy a new home. Often, all that it takes is a simple remodeling project, such as renovating your bathroom.

When looking at a bathroom remodeling project, many homeowners will wonder if it is a good idea or not. To ensure that a bathroom remodeling project is indeed a good idea for your home, you should look at some of the signs that your bathroom needs to be remodeled. If any of these signs sound familiar to you, then renovating your bathroom could be a good idea to revitalize the bathroom, and your home.

The most important sign that you should remodel your bathroom is whether or not you are unhappy with it, and want a change. If you are unhappy with just the bathroom, or the appearance of the entire house, then a good bathroom renovation may be just the ticket. If you do decide to remodel or redecorate your bathroom, you have many options available to you. You can just repaint the walls, or maybe replace that old sink. Since the bathroom is typically the smallest room in the house, even a small change will have a big impact. Or you could go all out, and replace everything in the bathroom, and do a complete bathroom makeover.

Another factor to consider when you decide whether or not to remodel the bathroom, is the condition of the room, and safety. If you’ve noticed a problem in the bathroom with mold and mildew, or if the room is falling apart, you may not only want to remodel, you may need to remodel your bathroom. The bathroom is one of the most used rooms in your home. You, and everyone in your home probably uses it several times a day. Loose floor tiles and mold are unattractive, but can also be a hazard. If your bathroom is in poor condition, then you should definitely look into remodeling.

If you are looking to sell your home, you may want to consider remodeling your bathroom. A new bathroom can help to increase the value of your home, especially if the bathroom is in bad shape, poorly lit, or out of date. You are certainly not required to remodel the bathroom before you sell your house, but it is a good idea. Speak to your real estate agent about it. They can give you information on whether or not the bathroom remodeling project will increase the value of the home enough to make the project worth it. In some cases, remodeling the bathroom before selling your house is worth the time, expense, and effort. Other times it isn’t.

When it really comes down to it, the biggest sign that the bathroom needs to be remodeled, is simply that you want to remodel it. There are many benefits to remodeling the bathroom, and you can approach it from many different angles. Whether it is simply replacing a faucet or repainting, or completely remaking the entire bathroom, the changes will have a big impact, and make a huge improvement in your bathroom.

New Years Resolution: A Complete Bathroom Redo

John Binder

A good number of homeowners decide to redo their bathrooms for the New Year. It’s the perfect time to get the ball rolling. However, “the ball” involves a lot more than you may think. The key to successfully redoing your bathroom for the New Year is to start saving money as soon as possible, decide what you want to redo, and then get it done.

Saving Money

Even before you know exactly what you want to do for your bathroom redo, you need to start saving money. Set aside a certain amount each month for your renovation. This will get you in the habit of saving money and when you decide on exactly what you want to redo, you’ll have some funds already set aside.

Deciding on What to Redo

The objective of your bathroom redo is change the look and feel of your bathroom. But what exactly do you want to redo? Is it the vanity, sink, bathtub, and/or toilet? Do you want to paint the walls and/or install shelving? All these questions are important because they’ll help you plan out exactly what your bathroom redo will entail. You need to map out everything that will be renovated. Once you know what you need to do and what supplies you’ll need to buy (or services you’ll need to hire), readjust your monthly savings so that you’ll have enough funds available when the time comes for the actual bathroom redo.

Actually Redoing

After you’ve planned out precisely what you want to redo and have saved up enough funds to pay for it, it’s time to commence the bathroom renovation. If you’ve never installed bathroom fixtures and furnishings before, it’s probably a good idea to hire a professional to help you. Many bathroom furnishing stores can provide you with recommendations on installers that can get all your new bathroom items installed properly. However, if you’re confident you can successfully redo your bathroom on your own, go for it. Just make sure you have all the proper tools and materials necessary to complete your renovation (and also remember to turn off the water before you remove any old bathroom fixtures.

A bathroom redo is a great new year’s resolution. In fact, it’s a good resolution to have any time of the year. The earlier you start, the more you can save for the redo and the more likely you’ll be able to complete the renovation in a timely manner.

Bathroom in Good Shape. Part Two

Arthur Prudent

Sitting bathtubs have also all the chances to be a success. Average depth of an ordinary bathtub varies from 40 to 50 cm and in the deepest point it exceeds 60 cm. Those who choose this model for a bathroom renovation should think whether they are ready to come out of a deep bathtub. The deepest bathtub in the world reaches 81 cm in the deepest point.

Untiring designers of modern bathrooms have recently invented a new interesting construction of a bathtub. In new models the pedestal somewhat swags down a sitting person in one place like a hammock and under feet the depth is less than under seat. Such a bathtub construction lets to slide into the water up to throat and come out of the bathtub stepping over from the shallow edge. At the dimensions 190 x 190 cm and at the depth in the lowest point 79,5 cm the bathtub is rather roomy for physically big people.

In general the bathtubs appear in the world as families. Similar configurations of bathtubs are issued under one name but if they are apparently similar they differ with their dimensions and details of outlines: a little bit higher or lower, a little bit rounder or squarer, a little bit wider or narrower. Or, for instance, there are collections of bathroom suites for family houses where everything is done on a noble scale and for prospective for house inhabitants of different age and body-build. For a full-bodied man there are more roomy bathtubs. For babies there are bathtubs with round shaped sides as resembling a flower-cup.

There are models for family bathing. Such a non-standard model as a rule is larger than an ordinary bathtub, it shall be installed in a niche. The bathroom suit of non-standard size would be a perfect place where children can bathe, spouses can take bath together and the water will not be splashed over.

New bathroom suites diversity, wide range of bathroom units, perfect collection of bathroom accessories shall be obliged to modern materials and technologies applied in bathrooms manufacturing nowadays. They make it possible to create geometric configurations Pythagoras did not dream of: with cavity at the feet, rounded at the head, with the bottom outlining the body, any other “sophisticated” shapes.

New bathroom suite should be chosen more thoroughly than any other piece of a house furniture. It is very closely related to the lifestyle of a family that is why a bathroom renovation or new bathroom installation thereof is not very easy. Bathroom suites suppliers are usually not the best advisers. Ideally, objectively estimate your physical data, think about “trying on” the bathtub onto you as you trying on when buying clothes, even underwear (as it will touch your body), and so that you should not jump with vaulting pole over high boards. And not to feel discomfort because of the difference of temperatures between the parts of body deep into the water and knees and shoulders coming out.

Construction of the bathtub is appreciated for its body-structure shape, i.e. closeness to human body. Such constructive inventions are now becoming pearls of shapes in new bathroom suites design. Professionals will help you choose and install a bathroom suite which is the most comfortable for you.
